What changes with the text he is rapporteur for

The proposal, PEC 221/2019, by deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG), cuts the work week limit from 44 to 40 hours and guarantees two paid days off per week, with no pay cut[1, 7]. The Câmara passed the text by 461 votes to 19[7].

To pass in the Senate, the proposal needs 49 votes in each of the two rounds. The first is set for this Wednesday, October 14[2].

Work

Before, he voted to take away rights

In 2017, Aziz voted yes to the labor reform[3]. The law created zero-hours work, where the worker is on call and only paid for the hours they are called in[6]. The result was less secure jobs and less guaranteed pay.

In 2019, he voted yes to the pension reform in both rounds[4]. Weeks later, he voted no to a change that guaranteed full retirement pay to people who become permanently unable to work; the change was rejected[4]. People who fall ill or get injured and can no longer work were left without that guarantee.

Public assets

Eletrobras and government spending

In 2021, he voted yes to the provisional measure that took control of Eletrobras away from the government[5]. An energy company that belonged to the people came under the control of private shareholders, who profit from the power bill.

Also in 2021, he voted yes to the PEC Emergencial, a constitutional amendment that sets rules to hold down the government's mandatory spending[4].
